Gadolinium containing contrast agent gadolinium butoxide is used for nuclear spin tomography imaging. Since 2000, it has been approved in Germany as a Gadovist for indications of contrast enhancement in cranial and spinal magnetic resonance tomography (MRT). Gadolinium butoxide is a non-ionic complex composed of gadolinium (III) and macrocyclic ligand 10- (2,3-dihydroxy-1- (hydroxymethyl) propyl) -1, Chemicalbook4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7-triacetic acid. Gadolinium containing contrast agents have become the most commonly used MRI contrast agent in clinical practice, with gadolinium based contrast agents being the sixth approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for central nervous system resonance imaging.
